200-pigeon day with Mark Gilchrist

I'm too knackered now to write about it in detail, but I went out after pigeons today with Mark Gilchrist - and he shot precisely 200, mostly woodies but with a handful of ferals.

Sore shoulder!

That sounds exhausting. What are you going to do with all those birds?

I was exhausted just filming him (actually I had a half-hour nap on the floor of the hide)! The birds went straight into the chiller, and Mark has plans for them all - some into his famous game pies, some for event catering, and some for a school project he has up his sleeve. Personally I think woodpigeon is one of our most under-rated game meats, it really is as good as a decent steak!

I only recently got my first taste of pigeon. It was an old one my boyfriend had shot, and the breast was unremarkable, but the legs were the tastiest treats ever!
