I'm too knackered now to write about it in detail, but I went out after pigeons today with Mark Gilchrist - and he shot precisely 200, mostly woodies but with a handful of ferals.

That sounds exhausting. What are you going to do with all those birds?
ReplyDeleteI was exhausted just filming him (actually I had a half-hour nap on the floor of the hide)! The birds went straight into the chiller, and Mark has plans for them all - some into his famous game pies, some for event catering, and some for a school project he has up his sleeve. Personally I think woodpigeon is one of our most under-rated game meats, it really is as good as a decent steak!
ReplyDeleteI only recently got my first taste of pigeon. It was an old one my boyfriend had shot, and the breast was unremarkable, but the legs were the tastiest treats ever!
